Figure 1: MRI facilities at Snow Canyon ClinicThe Imaging Center at Snow Canyon Clinic (SCC) is amongst the most comprehensive and technologically advanced of any in the Southern Utah, and Southeastern Nevada regions.  Snow Canyon Clinic has always been  first in bringing such modern, high technology, non-invasive diagnostic technology to our region.  With the opening of SCC in 1998 the state of modern non-invasive diagnostic tools was relatively primitive.  SCC changed all that.

SCC was the first to install a modern, very high resolution MRI with multiple capabilities never before seen in Southern Utah.  For example, our system was the first in Utah that was routinely employed for comprehensive heart imaging; and we worked with the Texas Heart Institute in providing this service.  Every year we upgrade and improve these MRI capabilities.  The bore of the MRI is shorter than most others, thus minimizing claustrophobia in susceptible patients.  It accommodates all patients, from small children to adults weighing up to 550 pounds.  (Refer to the "Services" link for a full discussion of MRI).

SCC was also the first to bring Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography (PET-CT) to Utah.  Yes, SCC installed the first fully functional PET-CT in the entire State.  Please refer to the "Services" link for a complete discussion of PET-CT, the most advanced instrument in the world for cancer diagnostics.  It is the only "open" system for claustrophobic patients that does not compromise any measure of quality.  PET-CT is also useful for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, and cardiac function.

The ultrasonography (US) laboratory provides the latest equipment for full service examinations of virtually all body parts and regions.  Vascular studies (carotid US, transcranial doppler, peripheral arterial studies, aorta studies, and yet other general arterial and venous studies) are performed with this equipment.  The usual goal of such studies is to detect any vessel narrowing, or expansion (aneurysm).  The US equipment is also employed for echocardiography (ECHO) studies, to provide information pertinent to heart structure and function.  Abdominal, pelvic, and gynecological examinations are also performed; an example of an abdominal study would be in the assessment of gall bladder disease, hepatomegally (large liver), pancreatitis, and numerous other indications.

The US also has 4D embryosonic capability, which enables one to directly visualize a fetus in the womb.  A large monitor is present to enable the recipient of any of the above studies to observe during the process of the study.  Furthermore, patients receive a CD that allows them to retain forever the images captured in the embryosonic studies, or virtually any of the above studies.  The certified technologist has specialized training in all aspects of the US exam, and in high risk OB-GYN; and in pediatric ultrasonography.  Please refer to the "Services" link for a complete discussion of US and 4 D embryosonic imaging.

The DEXA equipment laboratory is used to detect the presence of osteopenia (decreased bone mineralization) and osteoporosis (more severe fracture risk).  This laboratory performs a highly valuable service, and you can learn more by referring to the "Services" link.Of course, routine X-ray studies are performed at the clinic, and further technological advances are forthcoming routinely.
