John G. Schmidt, M.D.
Dr. Schmidt joined the Snow Canyon Clinic neurology staff two years ago. Prior to joining the Clinic, Dr. Schmidt was an Associate Professor of Neurology, in the Department of Neurology, at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, in rochester, New York. Simultaneously he also held an Associate Professorship in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He was an Attending Neurologist at Rochester General Hospital, and Strong Memorial Hospital, both in Rochester. Dr. Schmidt is Board Certified in neurology (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology). He is also certified by the American Society of Neurorehabilitation.
Born in Rock Springs, Wyoming, Dr. Schmidt completed undergraduate studies in the physical sciences in Colorado, and received his M.D. degree from the University of Minnesota. From there, he moved to the Medical College of Wisconsin to complete an Internal Medicine internship and residency training in neurology. He topped off his formal education with a fellowship in Neurorehabilitation at the Weill College of Medicine at Cornell University.
Dr. Schmidt has been prolific in his commitment to education in doctoral and post doctoral programs, and has been very active in community education as well. He has likewise been prolific in his contributions to the scientific literature, with publications in peer reviewed journals and book chapters. He has reviewed articles for the journals "Stroke" and "Neurology," and he has served as Medical Director in various forums. He is the recipient of numerous professional awards, and is a member of numerous professional societies.
Dr. Schmidt has served as an invited guest speaker to prestigious groups, and at last count he has done this over four dozen times. He retains a strong volunteer spirit.
Dr. Schmidt practices general neurology, but his special interests include stroke, neurorehabilitation, and various forms of degenerative brain disease; in particular Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Schmidt is one that we can never discount. He is a dedicated physician who takes the time patients require to understand and deal with their illness. Leisure time might find Dr. Schmidt exercising his superb voice with the St. George Choir.
